Premier League
The Premier League 2022/23 consists of 38 matches between 20 teams. Where each team plays each other home and away. After finishing in the bottom three in 2021/22, Burnley, Watford and Norwich City were relegated. Replaced by three clubs promoted from the Championship. Those teams being Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.
Starting from this season, clubs were permitted to make five substitutions rather than three. With managers being able to use these within three stoppages. This is aligned with other top European leagues.
This season is contested between 5th August 2022 till the 28th May 2023. As the 124th season of top flight English football.
In the 2022/23 season, the Premier League had a mid-season break due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup being played in Qatar. The last matches were played in the weekend of 12-13 November 2022. With Premier League football returning on 26 December, 8 days after the World Cup Final.
Qualifications & Relegations
Qualification for European football is as follows:
Top 4 teams qualify for the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
The winners of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League can earn qualification if not already in the top 4.
5th place in the Premier League, additional to the FA Cup winner, qualifies for the UEFA Europa League Group Stage
If the winner of the FA Cup also finishes in the top 5, or wins a major European trophy, then the Europa League place reverts to 6th position in the Premier League.
The winner of the EFL Cup qualifies for the UEFA Europa Conference League, unless that team has already qualified for another European competition.
In that case the place reverts to 6th in the Premier League or 7th if the FA Cup result caused the 6th placed team to qualify.
Relegation is as follows:
Bottom three places in 18th, 19th and 20th are relegated to the Championship
