The National League 2022/23 consists of 46 matches between 24 teams. Where each team plays each other home and away. After finishing in the bottom three in 2021/22, Kings Lynn Town, Dover Athletic and Weymouth were relegated. Replaced by four clubs promoted from the National League North & South. Those teams being Maidstone United, Dorking Wanderers, Gateshead and York City. As the league expanded.
Teams who finish in the top position in the division, are promoted to EFL League Two They replace the League Two bottom two, who are relegated. Positions 2nd to 7th compete in the playoffs to determine who joins the other team in the following season, as promoted to League Two.
Finishing in the bottom two in EFL League Two means relegation out of the English Football League and into the National League. With these teams replaced by the team finishing top of the National League, as well as the playoff winner.
This season is contested between 6th August 2022 till the 29th April 2023. As the 8th season under the current league format.
