The League Two 2022/23 consists of 46 matches between 24 teams. Where each team plays each other home and away. After finishing in the bottom two in 2021/22, Oldham Athletic and Scunthorpe United were relegated. Replaced by two clubs promoted from the National League. Those teams being Stockport County and Grimsby Town.
Teams who finish in the top three positions in the division, are promoted to EFL League One They replace the League One bottom three, who are relegated. Positions 3rd to 7th compete in the playoffs to determine who joins the other three teams in the following season, as promoted to League One.
Finishing in the bottom two in EFL League Two means relegation out of the English Football League and into the National League. With these teams replaced by the team finishing top of the National League, as well as the playoff winner.
This season is contested between 30th July 2022 till the 5th May 2023. As the 31st season under the current league format.
