Championship
The Championship 2022/23 consists of 38 matches between 24 teams. Where each team plays each other home and away. After finishing in the bottom three in 2022/23, Peterborough, Derby County and Barnsley were relegated. Replaced by three clubs promoted from the League One. Those teams being Wigan Athletic, Rotherham United and Sunderland.
It is the second highest league in the English football league system. With the Football League Championship taking over from the previous Football League Second Division.
This season is contested between 19th August 2022 till the 6th May 2023. As the 19th season under the Football League Championship banner. The competition is the wealthiest non-top division football league in the world.
In the 2022/23 season, the Championship had a mid-season break due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup being played in Qatar. The last matches were played in the weekend of 12-13 November 2022. With Sunderland and Millwall playing on 3rd December, before full Championship football returned on 10th December.
